First swim in Pilot Bay
Right .................. time had come to try out the wetsuit in the sea. I've swum in the Poly pool a few times with it and it makes a huge difference to times. It cut my 250m time from around 6 mins to 4 and half mins. Well good! .... BUT hadn't used it in the sea yet. Hadn't swum in the sea full stop. I've entered a triathlon next Sunday as a practice one for the big one in January and there is a 1500m swim in Pilot Bay. So .... planned to meet Aubry (bloke from work) who is also doing the triathlon at 7am at the Bay. He didn't turn up but I had my support team with me. I dragged every one out of bed at 6.30am (they wanted to honestly) and we drove down to Pilot Bay. Didn't quite go as I planned.

hi,
don't worry about the race, u will feel much easier in the water with other swimmers around and also with the task in hand!!
I always get freaked out swimming in open water alone but have never noticed in races!!
also the long easy strokes u take in the pool are not the best/ fastest for open water swimming, the short fast strokes that look messy are actually much faster in open water, u have a more continuous stroke through waves with this style so keep your speed high!!!
With the oil, its easier if you just spray a little on your wrists and ankles put the suit on and then spray a little on the top side of the wrists and calfs, FAST ENTRY AND EXIT!!!

Thanks for the comments and advice Woody. I'll stick with the short sharp panic strokes then shall I.
First triathlon so just want to get round and preperably not be the last out of the water. Be OK once I get on the bike.
What triathlons have you done?
Thanks again. Makes a change to get a sensible comment on here (no offence Cara! haha )
