Off on the 10K run along the coast and back round the Mount. Was hoping to make up a few places but only managed to go past a few. Finished in 3:17 which was OK. On target to beat 7hrs for the January Half.
Enjoyed the run the most I think. Best bits of the day though were seeing Jo and the kids each lap and then high 5ing Laura running up the finishing chute and then having Adam running on the path finishing the run with me. Well good! Mate from work, Mark and his friend were also their watching Mark's mate's wife and he was cheering me on. Best bit was though he would move up and down the course and so would be in a different place each lap. I'd be looking out for him and then I'd hear his words of encouragement from a different place. He cheered me on at the start of the Mount (hardest bit of run) and then was at the finish as I crossed the line to shake my hand and "be the first to congratulate you". His friend's wife was a few mins behind me but the women started a few mins after the men so we probably finished in about the same time. She's also doing the Half in january.
So on the whole it was a good day and it was brilliant to be involved in the event. Worse news of the day was a crash involving Kieran Doe who is a professional triathlete who the area has sort of adopted as their own (he comes from Auckland). He supports and enters all the Mount based Triathlons. Apparently he was going past a slow rider who then pulled out to let him through but they collided and Doe come off worst. I saw him on the floor on one lap and then being lifted into the ambulance on the next. He didn't look good. They said at the end that he would be in hospital 'for some time'. Hope he's OK for Jan and then March when he's one of the favourites for the 2007 NZ Ironman. I'm targeting that one for March 2008 :)
