Both the kids are doing the Weet-Bix Triathlon in three weeks time. Adam did it last year and loved it. It's Laura's first time and she is excited about it. Their training plan called for a 'race simulation' of about half the distance. Obviously I was more excited about it than them.

They swam 100m in the pool, rode for 2k and then ran 800m. We parked the ute as close to the pool as possible and set up transition in the back. I tried to get Laura to wear 'sports' stuff and sneakers but she insisted she could go faster in casuals and sandals! I spose a girl has got to be comfortable in what she wears. I was hoping that she would be uncomfortable and would be persuaded to wear the right stuff for the Weet-Bix Triathlon but that didn't work.

OK .... here we go

Ready ... steady ...

GO!!!!!!!

very close early on

Laura reverts to backstroke (sort of) and pulls away from Adam

At the end of the 2nd length I left the pool to get the bikes ready. Laura was just in front but by the end of the 4 lengths she had increased this to over half a length lead

So I was surprised to see Adam come out of the pool first. Apparently Laura used all the time she had in front of Adam to dry herself at the side of the pool.

She wasn't that far behind though and soon came into the carpark.

Adam seemed to be quicker but ....

Laura wasn't hanging about either

... and actually managed to get on the bike first

She has only just learned to ride the bike and so she took it very easy.

Adam was in no mood to hang about and set off in pursuit

Laura's was a more relaxed style of riding

Adam soon caught Laura and took the lead.

coming into the final stretch of the bike course

and out on the run

Laura wasn't too far behind but ...

Adam was able to take it easy.

Laura stepped up the pace to try to catch Adam

Adam knows its in the bag and has time to glance around to see where Laura is

Laura keeps fighting right to the end though. Note the sandals. They can't be comfortable!

Adam strides to the finish ...

... followed closely by Laura. Just up the final hill to the carpark

All smiles from the winner

Laura reflects on the seconds lost in T1 .... NOT!

time for play in the pool

as usual they spent more time under the water than above it.

Hope Adam realises that his course is double what it was last yr. Our Tryathlon isn't till end of March so plenty of time. Sascha doing it with 2 friends so has the easy run to do!!;-)
